Working for H&M

H&M is one of the world’s largest fashion companies – and an exciting place to pursue a fashion career. With more stores and new markets added every year, the group is constantly growing. Which means we’re always looking for new stars to join the team!

The H&M Group employs over 94,000 people and there are approximately 2,500 stores spread over 40 markets in Europe, North America, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East.

We have a strong corporate culture, which is based on core values that describe how we work in straightforward, simple terms. The most central value is our belief in people: All H&M employees get to take responsibility and everyone’s ideas are important. Looking after people and our planet is a natural part of our daily work – everyone within the company is working to achieve a more sustainable environment and a more sustainable society. Our values also include teamwork and constantly trying to improve: together we challenge ourselves to do things better and to always offer the customer an even better H&M.

Recruitment

With growth in existing markets and stores opening in new countries, H&M is always looking out for new stars to join the team. We recruit internally whenever possible, making sure to sustain the ‘spirit of H&M’. Internal recruitment means that a career at H&M is never set in stone. Job descriptions can change fast for those who want them to, and for many years, H&M employees all over the world have moved between positions in different cities or countries.

Personality is the most important asset that H&M employees have.

Within the H&M Group, there is an array of roles and many opportunities for development. When we move into a new market, we always recruit locally. New recruits often start out by travelling to a city or country where H&M has been present for slightly longer, where they receive training and support from local staff. At the time of a store opening, experienced employees travel to the new market to share their knowledge and make sure everything is run smoothly.

The process is an effective way of passing on H&M’s business concept and the ‘spirit of H&M’ while providing room for change and professional development

Diversity

Personality is the most important asset that H&M employees have. We believe that people who are allowed to be themselves do a better job, which is why we welcome diversity and personal style. H&M has a global diversity policy and an anti-discrimination policy.

H&M endeavours to be a good employer in all the markets in which we operate. That includes fair pay and working hours, the right to join a union and the opportunity to grow and develop within the company.

The H&M Incentive Program

In 2010 H&M introduced a new programme for all employees, the H&M Incentive Program, which aims to encourage long-term commitment and support future recruitment. The H&M Incentive Programme was initiated by Stefan Persson and family through the donation of 4,040,404 H&M shares worth approximately SEK 1 billion to a Swedish foundation, Stiftelsen H&M Incentive Program.

All employees of the H&M Group, regardless of their position or salary level, are included in the programme and are rewarded according to the length of their employment and whether they work full-time or part-time. As a general rule, funds will begin to be paid out no earlier than when employees reach the age of 62.
